Butterfly
My story is about butterflies. Many years ago my nephew came to stay with me for a while and when he left to go home he gave me a beautiful butterfly under a glass dome. My story is about butterflies. Many years ago my nephew came to stay with me for a while and when he left to go home he gave me a beautiful butterfly under a glass dome. I put it on a shelf in my office. One day about a year ago I went in the office and something just made me look on the shelf and I saw the butterfly and took it down, dusted it off and brought it out to my Florida room. Later that day I got a phone call to inform me that my nephew had died. A week later his service was held in Cocoa Beach but my husband needed me and he was too ill to attend. I felt really bad that I couldn't be there to say good bye. The day of the service I just happened to look out my picture window and there was a beautiful butterfly just fluttering like it was trying to get my attention. I just watched the butterfly and when it was sure that I was watching it just turned and flew away. I felt better in minutes because I just knew it was my nephew Terry telling me good bye.

Two weeks ago I had to have radiation treatment for skin cancer and I was frightened because it sounded so bad, but when I went for my first treatment the man that gave it to me had me smiling before I left. One day I went in and the man there knew something was wrong and asked me why I seemed so sad. I told him that I had just visited the cemetery where I saw for the first time my husbands grave marker and just seeing his name made his death real for me. The man gave me my radiation treatment and then said that he had a gift for me. He took his bag out of the cabinet and took a pin off of it. He walked over and asked for my hat that I wear all the time. He put the pin on my hat and said look it's a butterfly that lights up at night. I smiled and asked him his name so I could tell him how much I appreciated not just the pin, but that he could make me smile even when I was really down. He said his name was Terry. Another Terry and another butterfly given to me to make me smile.
